I’m more into this one. Witchy.

This is my favorite essay in the entire book. thank you for quoting it.
Do you know the work of Nebahat Akkoc? She was imprisoned and tortured by Turkish authorities when she tried to find out the truth of her husband’s murder. After she was released, she connected state violence and domestic/ intimate violence:
“After this torture and during the torture, I realized that this is a cycle of violence, that perhaps the policemen doing the torture saw violence in their own family and because of that are committing this torture.”
She founded this completely badass organization called Ka-Mer. They help protect women from honor killings and honor suicides, and run schools. Their schools are completely gender-neutral and if your child is in the school, both the mother and the father have to be active parents—it can’t be that the mother is always picking up and dropping off the kid. I was like “If a school tried that in America, the parents would lose their shit*.” They are so wise and changemaking. They do not blog. :)
Sorry, your post reminded me of her and her work, wanted to babble.
*Perhaps there are schools like that in America, I can’t claim much knowledge. But 99.9% of the families I know, the mom does drop off and pick up.
"Mr. Thompson said that the housekeeper’s account of what took place in Suite 2806 is the only one…"
and there—buried on the bottom of the second page of a of a two page article about what a liar this woman is—is this fact. when she had the opportunity to “tell the truth” (i.e. admit she was lying to the police in a “private” conversation)—she didn’t. she repeated what happened. and it matched what she told police.
half a million dollars. look at what it can buy you.
Sara Jackson calls it: “Why can’t a time traveling alien that looks like a tall attractive British man sweep me away into his TARDIS?”
