“It’s all about falling in love with yourself and sharing that love with someone who appreciates you, rather than looking for love to compensate for a self love deficit.”

missavagardner:

Marilyn was a big supporter of the Civil Rights Movement. Ella Fitzgerald was one of Marilyn’s idols and a major inspiration. However, the Mocambo nightclub in West Hollywood, the most popular dance spot at the time, refused to let Ella perform there because she was black. Outraged, Marilyn told the owners that if they would let Ella perform, she would be there in the front row every time Ella was onstage. She did, and the two became friends.

According to the great Ella Fitzgerald:
“I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt…it was because of her that I played the Mocambo, a very popular nightclub in the ’50s. She personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. She told him - and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status - that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman - a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it.”

Excited to see the movie tomorrow.

my band is opening for MEN

a hand holding a slip of paper that says "feminist revolution"

funkyfest:

my band is opening for MEN

suzy-x: OUR BAND IS OPENING FOR MEN

allisonweiss: WHEN

funkyfest: DECEMBER 16TH AT DEATH BY AUDIO. MEN PLAYS AT 11.

did I even just write those words? is this even a thing that is happening?

suzy-x: BY SOME ACT OF FEMINIST MAGIC IT IS INDEED HAPPENING

I’m trying every day lately, when I am not in the middle of crisis #4958349873498347, to remember last fall when me and Jen went to MOMA and we were there for three hours and did not see one piece of art made by a man!* And we did the Yoko Ono wishing tree outside, I cried when I saw Barbara Hammers LESBIAN DYKE EXPERIMENTAL FILMMAKER HAVING A LIFETIME RETROSPECTIVE show** and then Kathleen came to meet us and went upstairs and did “Scream.” I think Dec 16 will be like that, I think the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is like that, I think WOMANIFESTIVAL*** will be like that, and I think WOMAN HORROR HOUSE**** will be too. Sometimes I go past thinking and even believe.

*NOT THAT I DONT LOVE MEN. THE PEOPLE AND THE BAND. I COULD USE A MAN AND SOME MEN RIGHT NOW HEH SEE WHAT I DID THERE. But seriously, I never ever thought in my lifetime that I would have that experience. I never even thought about NOT having that experience, it never even crossed my mind until the end of the day and then I freaked out.

**Crying again now, did I mention it was B’s 60th birthday and she had the longest standing ovation and THE BEST.

***Coming in Feb!

****Coming in October!
