mikkipedia:

Stemonitis fusca is a rather marvelous species of slime mold that carries its jelly-like spore-forming fruiting bodies on curious stilts

CURIOUS INDEED.

I do so love a good slime mold

I literally gasped out loud at the climax.

It’s kind of like the dream I had the other night of Paul Weller making dioramas with various people snuck out of my head and made a blog.

"I need everybody to see what is NOT being stated here. no where does it say anything at ALL about…"

I need everybody to see what is NOT being stated here. no where does it say anything at ALL about *training marginalized communities (i.e. women/girls) to create their own media to address their own situations*. No where in here does it say anything at all about anything even like addressing the digital divide through community empowerment.

This is NOT about challenging what media is, challenging how it is used, creating space for women to share skills or create a space for millions of people invested in gender justice to build a new world or even a new media infrastructure.

Above, part of midwesternmountainmama’s great critique of the  Nation piece. And, as usual, YES. THIS.  Where is that horizontal movement, where is the step back—to think, to be accountable, to be clear on goals, and motivations and strategies and who they are going to hurt, along with who will benefit.

I was thinking about some friends of mine in a band that’s pretty well-known, due to being fantastic musicians and also relentless touring. A few years back they got to the point where a big booker offered to take them on. This would mean more money (higher ticket prices, fancier venues, richer people at the shows buying merch), and some personal benefits in terms of not having to email with J Random Punk Kid in Tucson.

But instead they organized a friend of theirs who liked to book shows and had managed tours into starting his own booking outfit that reflected the values of their community—all-ages shows, for example. With them as his first band, he got other bands on board fairly quickly and now that community has this great thriving resource.

Sharing the wealth instead of demanding it, I guess? I don’t know. A lot of work to do.
