Bob Dylan hate club for life and down with abusive man apologists

I will forever and ever and ever stand in solidarity with women who were hurt and mistreated by men who seem to be universally heralded as “sensitive” and “understanding” and “feminist” because do you know how incredibly viscerally hurtful and traumatizing it is to constantly be reminded of their “goodness” in public spaces and not be able to say anything like “actually, that person is a total scumbag” because you’re over that whole public call-out thing so you just have anxiety attacks in silence about four different things all colliding at once. Fuck I just want to scream I am hating Tumblr so much today

When I was a preteen, of course I read every book on Bob Dylan (Blood on the Tracks is one of my childhood albums, I forgive my still-fondness for it). Obviously now I’m Vice President of the Bob Dylan Hate Club (for life), but I’ve been thinking about him recently. I make these mixes where I kind of curate and narrativize works from within a musician’s catalog, like I did with that Jack White piece and the Mean Mad Whiskey Feminist take on Modest Mouse that I’m working on.

A while ago, Lucas and I were talking about our mutual Bob Dylan hatred but I (having way more Dylan experience than he has) brought up a few things that I love out of context for their meanness especially—“Idiot Wind,” even “Like a Rolling Stone.” And I asked: what if I looked at all of Bob Dylan’s works and pulled out the things that were mean or could read as feminist and I retold the Bob Dylan story? What if I cherry-picked and took the Bob Dylan out of Bob Dylan? That’s another project I’m working on now. I’m reinventing Bob Dylan for my own functions. I want to see what that would look like.

(I tried to do a similar thing with the Beatles, but no matter how hard I tried it was still boring.)

Bolded for my feelings that I’ll always be a Cynthia Lennon (and for Julian, too).

the truth is bolded

swintons:

We’re not too easy on each other, but we treat each other with great gentleness and tenderness, we’re a bit fearful of each other but not too much.

“For most of my life I’ve been a bare-knuckle fighter. The one who wins is the one who hits the hardest. I was beaten as a child and I learned early never to cry. If I was locked out overnight I sat on the doorstep till the milkman came, drank both pints, left the empty bottles to enrage my mother, and walked to school.”
