What a dark week. RIP.

My conclusion, coming at the end of an extensive landscape of ideas, would be: beware of women, but most particularly beware of the feminine part of your own nature, which is set on destroying you. The liking to have things easy, the need for warmth, the hunger for ornament, all these essentially feminine attributes, are inimical to the male. Woman - and the feminine in general - knocks a man down to his anti-male feelings. I could name you any number of outstanding men who were ruined by their wives. Persons of great talent, and the most impressive scale. The feminine is treacherous by its very nature. It undermines and hollows out. It’s poison for the masculine brain, for the brain as a whole, for the masculine. If it’s a matter of taking a man apart into his components, and not bothering to reassemble him… In scientific terms, a woman is a sort of effigy of a man… The hereditary enemy of thought… I mean, they don’t even let their husbands read newspapers… Yes, the man who keeps them is not allowed to think… Woman is a destroyer, she’s not capable of friendship… They’re made for marriage and children, the only moment they stop lying is when they’re giving birth… Women are for bedding, and nothing more. A woman has no sense of humor. She’s the devil’s tool, and she’s responsible for the tragedy of humankind.

fivedollarradio:

The archetypal girl fan does not have to worry about whether music is cool or valid or authentic. If it makes her dance or she gets hot, she screams. Boys do not scream, so we get threatened.

Rob Sheffield from Talking to Girls About Duran Duran

I keep coming back to this quote whenever I want to write something about women as music fans. Sheffield seems like an affable guy, but this just makes me want to tear my hair out. (Or at least seriously question if we are living in the same world.) See, this is the same kind of “cheeky” sexism Chuck Klosterman has built an entire career on — you girls may be incapable of critical thought, but damn it, you know how to listen to music for fun.

I cannot.

milkeemountainmama:

Give Me All Your Luvin’ (Feat. M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj) (by madonna)

i don’t know how i feel about madge these days. she seems so….*scared*. intimidated. nervous. back in the olden days, i always felt like she could either rip your face off or sing to you, it depended on what sorta mood she was in. she was *challenging* the camera, the viewer to a fight every time a new video or song came out. and lets be honest—some of those songs sucked horse shit. like—lucky star? all i can hear is a tinny whine over a sorta good beat. but that video came along and she’s like, yeah, what you think of this bitch? cuz fuck you.

and then the whole Marylin stage, where she’s like, TRY to tell me that i’m not Marilyn. TRY. cuz oh, yeah, fuck you bitch, i’m madonna.

she just doesn’t have that same swagger in this video. which in turn makes it harder to ignore the fact that maybe she should’ve did the background vocals while nikki and mia took over the rest of the song…

Yes. This is totally it. Like she is trying to be pretty  which is not something I ever thought Madonna would do. It’s weird.
