The Bel-Tower DIY: We’re not going anywhere!

The Bel-Tower DIY: We're not going anywhere!:

As many of you probably know by now, the Fresno Police Department shut us down tonight. REST ASSURED THAT THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE’RE DONE! We’re meeting with someone from ABC and the FPD on MONDAY AT NOON at the venue and everyone is invited! We highly encourage everyone to come, and we plan to hold an OPEN MEETING afterward to discuss where we can go from here. Our IndieGoGo campaign should be up tomorrow or Sunday and we’ll be taking donations of any kind in person or via PayPal at thebeltower@gmail.com. We’ll need thousands of dollars, and we’ll need it fast. Everything helps. Spread the word, collect cans and bottles, sell baked goods, throw benefit shows… We’re going to figure this out. BT4EVR.

As anyone reading this should know, THE BEL-TOWER IS MY LIFE! I think it has truly saved my mental health and given me a sense of purpose, and I know we’ve only had it for about a year and four months, I can no longer imagine living without it.

Our IndieGoGo campaign should be up sometime soon, and the money is now more important than ever. We were originally going to use it to bring the building up to code because we were more concerned about the fire marshall coming in, but the cops and ABC finally decided they give a fuck (despite more than a year of general avoidance, even when we called for help) and decided that our being a members-only club with a membership fee was not enough. Therefore, WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET!

  • Spread the word. Tell your friends, your family, bands, your local DIY venues… DIY is a community, and we help each other out. We especially need to work together with other venues to ensure that this stops happening to other people. This is a never-ending problem for all of us, and we need to figure out the best loopholes and strategies for staying open.
  • Donate to our PayPal. The email is thebeltower@gmail.com. Every cent counts at this point. Shows were our primary source of income, and until further notice, we can no longer hold any. We normally only make enough every month to cover rent and utilities, so this is going to be incredibly difficult.
  • If you have any advice, especially legal advice or ideas on how to make money while we can’t do shows, this could be even more valuable than money.
  • Let us know you stand with us. The past two weeks have been the hardest we’ve ever faced. We lost a close friend and our venue. Every single comment, email, letter, or donation is incredibly important to us.
  • PLEASE REBLOG! REBLOG, REBLOG, REBLOG!

We’ve accomplished so much this past year, but we still have so much to do. DIY spaces are incredibly hard to keep going, and I’d rather die than let mine go. We’re run entirely be women, people of color, and students and have done our best to create an atmosphere free of racism, sexism, homophobia, and disrespect of all kinds. We want to continue to revitalize our little part of Downtown Fresno, and we can’t do this without everyone’s help.

Please spread the word and help us out in any way possible. The Bel-Tower is my life and I mean that more than I think anyone will ever understand.

Support.

getoutoftherecat: “don’t worry, i got this” Fritz will watch…

“don’t worry, i got this”

Fritz will watch kitten videos for hours unless the kittens seem to be in need of grooming or cuddles, in which case he will look everywhere behind the screen for them until I turn it off. The only other time he has reacted to video was when I was setting up a livestream and he saw himself in real time and I could tell he was like, “Helloooooo handsome.”

Before Monster her own Therapy Cat (which only seemed fair, since she is mine), I got her that Kitty Safari video which is hilarious for a million reasons but the only part she liked was the bird playing with a piece of garbage in a street gutter which I realized was because that is what she looked at out the window all day when I wasn’t home. I think we got Barrycat about a week after that.

Real Talk

Me: And then next to Ira's Porn on the Bayou video rental place, we'd open the "Wanna Screw?" hardware store.
Not Me: Hahahaha! Was literally just talking about Porn on the Bayou with Ira earlier today.
Me: Have we all been telling each other the same jokes since 1995 or so?
Not Me: Yes. But that is why we will be friends forever.
Me: Good jokes, bad memories.

MTV’S STYLISSIMO: CINDY CRAWFORD MEETS DENNIS RODMAN

Seriously what has happened to TV in the last decade. Why are supermodels no longer moonlightling as TV presenters and why are their guests no longer willing to model skin tight swimwear while being questionned?\
