““Remember
me. Do you
remember me?
In the night’s windowless darkness
when I am lying cold and numb
and no one’s fiddling with the lock, or
shining flashlights in my eyes,
although I never write, secretly
I long to die with you””

“Nobody wanted your dance,
Nobody wanted your strange glitter, your floundering
Drowning life and your effort to save yourself,
Treading water, dancing the dark turmoil,
Looking for something to give”

ugh, so irritated w/myself

milkeemountainmama:

i used the phrase “rape culture” without including my critique of the phrase in a post—and now it looks like the real thing i’m upset about is that slut shaming is not the same thing as rape culture and rape culture is the “real” problem and we need to deal with that.

Rather than what I *REALLY* meant, which is that focusing on “slut shaming” allows people to purposefully position the answer to these problems as “individual he needs to apologize” rather than *structural* ‘this speaks to white supremacist heteropatriarchy and we need to question what media even IS and why five corporations might actually enjoy the “controversy’ that comes from one of their business ventures calling women sluts.

do you know how many fucking times this exact same scenario has come up over the course of my blogging lifetime? asshole says fucked up shit. everybody gets mad. asshole rolls his eyes. everybody gets madder and demands apology. asshole doesn’t apologize fast enough. everybody gets even madder. sponsers start backing out. asshole realizes things might be serious. asshole apologizes. sponsers keep backing out. everybody keeps getting madder. asshole says he’s *really* sorry. asshole loses job. everybody cheers. asshole looks soft and vulnerable and said. asshole apologized repeatedly! but all the *dicks* were being dicks! and wouldn’t accept the apology! asshole looks really sad as he packs up his desk. asshole holds press conference. asshole friends get enraged. asshole lays low while asshole friends get to work. six months later, asshole has new job. and all of asshole friends feel happy. everybody else doesn’t notice or has moved on. to all the new stuff to be angry at.

just once. just ONCE. could we ever move to that next step? and interrogate why this cycle keeps happening? and how to fucking STOP that cycle?

who fucking *cares* if slut shaming and rape culture are the same thing???? that’s NOT THE POINT. the point is how to stop the cycle. and in my eyes, stopping the cycle is noticing that *slut shaming serves as a way to continue the cycle*. and *why* are people so invested in continuing the cycle—even as they know it will continue to hurt them?

What is there about white supremacist heteropatriarchy that is so compelling that people who mobilize around “slut shaming” refuse to let go of it?

The New Statesman || So, it turns out feminism is a CIA plot to undermine the left:

suzy-x:

I can’t even pick out my favorite line from this article. In short: at a recent panel discussion on OWS, Mark Crispin Miller, professor of media studies at NYU, goes on an angry old white man rant about how the CIA paid feminists to fuck up the Left in the ’70s. Just read the whole thing, Laurie Penny throws it down.

Andrew WK was actually a time-traveler trying to warn us about LMFAO, right?

This would explain why there are more than one of him.
