Getting a decent data connection at SXSW can be a challenge, given that it attracts what may be the most data-hungry crowd in the world. With a project called Homeless Hotspots, a marketing company is helping out with this, while helping the homeless and promoting itself. Homeless people have been enlisted to roam the streets wearing T-shirts that say “I am a 4G hotspot.” Passersby can pay what they wish to get online via the 4G-to-Wi-Fi device that the person is carrying. It is a neat idea on a practical level, but also a little dystopian. When the infrastructure fails us… we turn human beings into infrastructure? — David Gallagher

WHAT.

Next year a cigarette company can send around some human ashtrays.

sl33pcr33p:

more or less, it makes me upset that men constantly have access to me and my feelings; they never shy away from saying things to me that are upsetting or triggering, and unlike when i’m talking to women, if i ask them to stop it immediately becomes a matter of dominance. it’s a show of weakness or disrespect to them to bow out of a conversation with a man. they demand that you engage. they demand that you perform. and if you don’t, you face ultimatums: you aren’t what/who you say you are if you refuse to speak to me about this, because of my dogmatic opinions of how to social justice.

and i’m just, i’m done. i don’t want to anymore and it’s difficult to make myself believe i don’t have to.

we have to make refusing to engage tough. we have to make refusing to engage cool. also, we just have to refuse to engage.

Please start an Ask Pussy advice tumblr. Pleaaaaase.

daniellemertina:

But the ironic thing about this (besides yes, people don’t care about the kids murdered in the US) is that in order to get to Kony (with the 200 or so troops he has left) they would have to murder his child soldiers…

Also, as far as I’m concerned, the US has child soldiers. The military goes to high schools to specifically recruit kids of color and low income kids, telling them a bunch of lies to get them to enlist. Not so different from Kony.

“Let’s face it. We’re undone by each other. And if we’re not, we’re missing something. If this seems so clearly the case with grief, it is only because it was already the case with desire. One does not always stay intact.”

-Judith Butler, from Undoing Gender. And yes. That. We are crushed to the exact extent that we once felt whole, which means I will be just as sad as I am now happy. And I know that. And it’s fine, even though it’s awful. It’s fine. (via oxxenfree)
