Today the doctor and I noted that I’ve had really bad falls twice this year, both times just when things were looking up a little. He seemed a little concerned it was some weird self-induced thing despite much evidence that I’m clumsy on top of my mobility issues and I’m on 898,000 drugs, two of which list “gait disturbance” as a side effect. “Have you considered therapy?” he said and then I laughed until I cried and said, “I hear laughter is the best medicine,” and he looked confused. Perhaps even a little abashed.

FOR SPRING, JUST BE SEAFOAM. BE THE FOAM OF THE SEA.

some dude in montreal asked me for the time (i’m pretty sure) just so he could stare at my hands, and then he said he liked my nail polish

these are the hands i use for punching tho and seafoam is my siren song

seafoam 4always seafoam 4ever

Literally everyone in New York has this color on their nails right now. It’s like one big music video or something.

re: feminist silence on May Day

Y’all talk about money, status, equal pay and all that jazz. But you really need to talk about WORK.

If anything, May Day (and all the preparations for it) have made me reconsider feminism as a movement of disgruntled reproductive and affective laborers who are fed up with The Bullshit. There is a lot of labor that goes into maintaining social relations and even performing gender under a hetero-patriarchy. But contemporary cultural/liberal feminism stops at gender as an ~identity~ in and of itself, and not as something that is maintained by such labor.

If they focused on labour then they’d have to indirectly refer to all the thieving, exploiting and appropriating that they do when it comes to their writing and marginalised women’s writing and lives. But yeah I love this so much.

BOOM. I can always count on you for your impeccable real talk, leonine.

So totes.

The Fix: Courtney Love Loses Rights to Kurt’s Image

The Fix: Courtney Love Loses Rights to Kurt’s Image:

grungebook:

The site reports that Frances Bean Cobain has taken over control of the publicity rights for her dad’s name, likeness and appearance.

I broke my Girls-free zone and now I’m breaking the Courtney-free zone because I think little Bean is going to turn out fine and a part of my that has felt anxious and helpless for years just relaxed a little bit.

"People carry a lot of wounds. Representation is important. You would have to be half-dead to not…"

“People carry a lot of wounds. Representation is important. You would have to be half-dead to not bristle at things selling you on “a voice of a generation,” however ironically displayed, and then to have a show that stars a bunch of unknowns with known parents on top of it… it just makes you think that the deck is stacked. (Bad Smash joke corner: why didn’t she cast one of Meryl Streep’s Gummer daughters, even if they were volunteering in Micronesia?)

I think, in particular, even though the access to making your own art is easier than ever in 2012, it’s still very hard to devote yourself to it, or to make things that people end up seeing with no monoculture. The result? Resentment of people who break through, whose voice gets heard for whatever reason.
