“Most white feminists look at me disdainfully when I recount some of my choice violent moments. They are appalled, morally repelled by this unbecoming behavior. One even giggled, holding her breastbone ever so lightly and saying she’s not the violent type, blah blah blah. The messages are, 1) I’m educated and you’re not, 2) I’m upper class and you’re not, 3) I’m a feminist and you’re not (since her brand of feminism is equated with nonviolent moon-to-uterus symbiosis). My “men” can do the fighting, but I, gentle maiden, shan’t; the new feminism remaking a generation in the image of the suburban, wealthy, sophisticated, genetically genteel. No one protected me when a loved one cracked my head on a public street one might, not even the college educated Upper West Side white women strolling by pretending not to notice. I don’t like getting hit either, but what are you gonna do when someone grabs your tits? Meekly whisper you won’t stoop to your attackers level? and what level is that exactly? if that’s the way “women” react, how do we classify the elderly Filipinas on a subway train who, when Joe Dickwad grabbed my ass, congratulated me for whacking him as hard as I could, screaming obscenities, and chasing him - to his utter shock and dismay - through the station? They were the few who seemed to acknowledge, respect, and allow for “aggressive” forms of resistance instead of strapping on moral straightjackets for the nineties which we “women” must squeeze into. If that’s a woman, I’m not one. I am an animal who eats, sleeps, fucks, and fights voraciously - I assume a “good” woman does it gently and in the missionary position only.”

“If race is something that is not continually discussed in a critical fashion, it quickly becomes a place where people feel safe to spread their White supremacist beliefs. If White female privilege is treated like a debatable issue, rather than an established fact, the commenters will take that as a signal that despite a so-called liberal pedigree, that Whiteness is indeed affirmed in this space.”

thepeoplesrecord: Youth activists infiltrate Florida immigrant…

thepeoplesrecord:

Youth activists infiltrate Florida immigrant detention center, find people wrongly held
July 31, 2012

Activists with the National Immigrant Youth Alliance intentionally placed themselves in deportation proceedings in order to enter the Broward Transitional Center, an immigration detention facility in Florida — and they say they found scores of detainees who shouldn’t be there under the Obama administration’s revised deportation policies.

Beginning in June 2011, the administration ordered broader discretion in the prosecution of undocumented immigrants, with consideration to be given to age, how the person entered the country and his or her education, military service, criminal history and family circumstances. Then in June of this year, the administration extended the policy to cover undocumented youth brought to the U.S. as children.

But it appears that those policies are not being applied on the ground. Over the course of the past month, seven NIYA activists who themselves are undocumented immigrants entered the facility (in photo) in an effort to organize detainees. They report finding people who should not or need not be there, including:

people with pending applications for U visas, which give temporary legal status and work eligibility to victims of certain crimes including rape, torture, domestic violence and human trafficking;

* more than a dozen youth eligible for conditional permanent residency under the DREAM Act, federal legislation that has not yet been approved by Congress but which sets out criteria that the Obama administration says it is using in making deportation decisions;

* several cases of immigrants in need of immediate medical care, including one person with a blood clot in his leg and another with a bullet in the spine; and

* more than 60 people with no criminal record or prior deportations who are eligible for discretion under the administration’s policy.

Many of the detainees have been at the facility for at least five months, with some there for as long as 20 months, the activists report. Among those involved in the undercover investigation was Viridiana Martinez, an immigration-reform activist with the North Carolina Dream Team.

A facility specifically for low-priority immigrant detainees, Broward Transitional Center is operated by the GEO Group, a private correctional services company based in Boca Raton, Fla. Formerly known as Wackenhut Corrections Corp., GEO Group receives an average of about $166 a day in tax dollars for each detainee at the Broward facility, which has a capacity of 600.

NIYA publicized the findings of its undercover investigation in a July 30 press conference held outside the office of U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). The group is petitioning Homeland Security officials to undertake a full and immediate review of all detainees at the facility.

“NIYA will no longer allow GEO Group or other private prison corporations to profit off of shattered families and broken lives,” the group said in a statement. “We will continue to organize inside their jails until the president lives up to his promises.”

holy Anne Sexton face

omg you are right!!!

Oh, the time I wasted trying to be friends with this woman in the 90s bec she looked like Anne Sexton, and also she was one of those “I dont have any female friends” types (was in a band with four guys, lived with them) and I’m just recently getting over my desire to befriend women like that and show them how great female friends are. That particular brick wall has been quite sturdy.

So we have manifested this fantastic character on Covert…

So we have manifested this fantastic character on Covert Affairs, a super-cheesy spy show I watch at the gym. Her name is Linda Wells and she says stuff like:

“It diminishes the both of us when you run to a man to help solve our problems.”

And has conversations like:

“I will treat you as an equal. One of Langley’s many double standards that does not exist in my division is a false hierarchy.”

“Are there others?”

“Yes. For example male operatives are encouraged to sleep with assets for intel, females, not so much. They’re worried we’ll get too emotional.”

“No one has ever put it that way before.”

“That’s because you’re a woman.”

Obvie all the male spies hate her. She does seem nuts, apart from her engaging misandry, but working collectively within the CIA and hating men is totally ace insurrection.

She’s also the only female character who consistently wears pants.

ETA: I forgot, I love this photo because you can see my hand which is only fair since she is our creation.
