Jesus Christ I forgot how awesome this movie is. SUPERINTELLIGENT SHARKS. Also there is one part where Saffron Burrow is about to electrocute a shark and she takes off her top for no reason at all, then gets back to it.

Did you know that there are multiple places in the world named Midlothian, but none of them are in Middle Earth? You would think, right? I got confused today because someone pitched me a story about the former superfund site in Midlothian, Texas and since I live a few blocks from a superfund site myself, I was intrigued. While I was poking around online I ended up on this website for Midlothian, Virginia, which is so awesomely Stepford/Levittown/insert creepy town name that I was like TOXIC WASTE IN A PLANNED COMMUNITY? IS EVERY AWESOME B MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN ABOUT TO COME TO LIFE IN A STORY? Because that would be awesome, but no, there are two towns and there goes my reason to live. Now realize that I ride this emotional roller coaster every fucking minute of the day.

ETA That I say awesome more than Dean Winchester.

“Sometimes you need to listen to your haters. Sometimes critiques on your privilege, your power and your actions are important to listen to and consider. We have to think about who it is coming from and what their intentions are and whether we are fucking up or being reckless. It’s not as simple as just saying ‘fuck the haters’.”

Sylvia Robinson [March 6, 1936 – September 29, 2011] is responsible for pushing hip-hop into the mainstream. Before Russell Simmons gave the world Run-DMC, Robinson changed music when she produced “Rappers’ Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang, a group she created. The song was a wholesale recasting of the Nile Rodgers-produced disco smash with Chic, “Good Times,” made brand new with rhymes. “Rapper’s Delight” was not only the first rap song to chart on Billboard’s Top 40, it was also one of the first songs an entire generation of hip-hop kids would memorize.

Suffragettes in sarees. Very high necked blouses and the brooch that seems to have been common in this period-wonder if the brooches are in suffragette colours.

One of the women is possibly Sophia Duleep Singh.  The site from where the picture is taken - Edwardian Promenade - is an interesting browse if you are interested in the period.
