Project Envision is a pilot program working to end sexual violence by working with communities to identify their specific issues and address prevention, awareness, and resources for victims of sexual violence.

It is part of a six-year citywide plan from the New York Alliance Against Sexual Assault. The initial phase is focusing on three communities: South Bronx, Lower East Side, and Williamsburg/North Brooklyn. They are having a fundraiser/silent auction at Huckleberry on October 12th, in conjunction with Feministing and Hollaback NYC..

Obviously I will be posting more about it but right now, perhaps you would consider donating to the auction. You don’t know it but you are full of prizes!!

Give me your band’s CD and I will make a Local Music Prize!

Do you get swag at work? Give a little to stop sexual assault!

Have you come to the realization that you probably never will reread your box set of Maximum Rock and Roll from 1990-1995, the “DON’T SEND US CDS” years? Time Capsule prize!

How about your service industry job? Can you slip some free drinks or coffees to someone? An excellent prize that will net you drinks and goodwill.

Can you sew? You could hem five things for someone! Let’s discuss those vintage hats you keep buying on eBay and will never have the nerve to wear. (This does not apply to Sarah Hooper or Lauren Cerand of course.) The Hat Lady prize is born!

Perhaps you have produced a book you could donate or you have a delightful zine that is prize-worthy!

Maybe you are a designer/artist type person and you would be willing to make a booklet of someone’s twitters for posterity? !

Can you write someone’s artist statement or edit a manuscript? A most excellent prize!

It turns out that I have an ability to divine what is most prizeworthy in all beings. If you need a private session, that can be arranged.

Look within yourself, and let me know. xoom (mikki AT stim DOT com)

I’d like to note that Project Envision is not just about working with white, straight, well-off, English-speaking, able-bodied folks. If you’ve spent any time in North Brooklyn, as opposed to just reading about it, you know we have large Latino, Polish, and other groups living here, that much of our community is below the poverty level, that we have many senior citizens who are vulnerable. Sexual violence hurts everyone. Project Envision is working with churches and community groups across the area, and is committed to multilingual, accessible programming.
