nuditea:

i wonder how many grains of rice i’ve eaten in my life

When I was writing the activism book I decided I really needed to look into those rice-for-clicks sites and it took a lot of math (including counting the # of grains of rice in a cup and getting various aid orgs to tell me how much rice is in a typical disbursement) but it turns out they are yet another “internet activism” phony selling well being disguised as change, just FYI and you’ve prob eaten fewer than you think. RICE.

(I debated over linking to Amazon, this isn’t a sales pitch but seems better to give the info than ppl saying “what book”, if you don’t work with teens you wouldn’t have heard of it)

Got a Girl Crush On: Sara Horowitz (founder of the Freelancers Union)

Sara Horowitz is the founder of the Freelancers Union, leading organizations of independent workers and reshaping the way self-employment is viewed (not to mention is a smart effing cookie: Echoing greenMacArthur Fellow, and graduated from Cornell University).

Bonus: her grandfather was vice-president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in New York!

No no no no no no. Freelancer’s Union is fucked up and self-serving and does not serve its constituency. It’s essentially a lobbying and branding organization on its own behalf. (Hmm what does that remind you of.)

Never support. Do not support.
