fapnigga:

sobbing

We had a group discussion/admission last night of a certain fondness for “Friends.” It reminded me of a night in the 90s when Joe, Ann, Matthew, and I all came out as Oasis fans. (This was also night of me and Matthew’s first kiss! Which I only remember now because a few years ago we walked by the spot and he pointed it out and I felt terrible that I had no idea what he was talking about.)

It was someone’s birthday, and we had fallen apart but it was this movie and his birthday, at the Director’s Guild theater. I miss my friend. I don’t think about it much, but I feel sick when I think about how other people get to be his friend and I don’t. This movie gives me a stomach ache, a familiar and horrible one.

"I have gone out, a possessed witch, haunting the black air, braver at night; dreaming evil, I have…"

I have gone out, a possessed witch,
haunting the black air, braver at night;
dreaming evil, I have done my hitch
over the plain houses, light by light:
lonely thing, twelve-fingered, out of mind.
A woman like that is not a woman, quite.
I have been her kind.

I have found the warm caves in the woods,
filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves,
closets, silks, innumerable goods;
fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves:
whining, rearranging the disaligned.
A woman like that is misunderstood.
I have been her kind.

I have ridden in your cart, driver,
waved my nude arms at villages going by,
learning the last bright routes, survivor
where your flames still bite my thigh
and my ribs crack where your wheels wind.
A woman like that is not ashamed to die.
I have been her kind.

Anne Sexton, Her Kind

If there is one thing I’ve learned over the past couple of years, it’s that friends to whom you can say “Hey, this really hurt my feelings,” or “I feel weird about this,” and who can say it to you, and you’re both generous and kind about it, are the most important people in the world, and I’m so grateful for Daryl and Katy and Elisabeth and Colleen and Alithea and Kara and others unnamed.

katewadkins: A great idea, a great project, a great…

katewadkins:

A great idea, a great project, a great writer.

habitsofbeing:

One afternoon, while drinking coffee together in my living room & discussing a reading I had gave, a dear friend suggested I start an audio zine. My initial (& internal) response to this idea was very negative, but my response to my response (in the name of working hard every day to be better & stronger & to obliterate the boundaries of comfort) was to start this project as soon as possible.

in 2011 I wrote the first issue of “Habits of Being”, an oral history and creative nonfiction zine. It contains interviews with the residents of the Susan B. Anthony Memorial Unrest Home (SuBAMUH), a women’s intentional community in Amesville, Ohio. It also contains my own stories.

“The Way We Live Through This” is an extension of what was done in that first issue, weaving these womyn’s voices with my own & with music by the Calliope Feminist Choir, Cara Beth Satalino, Waxahatchee, Radiator Hospital & others.

Because, who better to tell our stories than ourselves?

deadhorsebrooklyn: I love everything Graham Greene and was…

deadhorsebrooklyn:

I love everything Graham Greene and was really taken by the new adaptation of Brighton Rock. Sam Riley as Pinkie Brown… are you shitting me? New obsession formed…shrine being built as I write…all that.

And… well, I can’t stop myself from making the Graham Greene/Morrissey connection, cause you know I can’t resist touting Moz as a genius.

Now My Heart is Full

Huzzah!

A spy, a moralist, and a conflicted cultural Catholic, Mr. Greene is obviously my spirit animal and Karolina: best development in a while!
