Today a writer told me she saw SCUM in my office when we were talking about her assignment, and then she adopted a cat and named it Valerie Solanas. THIS IS ALL I HOLD DEAR IN LIFE MY FRIENDS.

not going to waste any time reblogging this because I want to enjoy my Sunday night, but seriously? like, Andy Warhol was a piece of shit who exploited a lot of people. also, have you even read SCUM? I would rather see folks unpack and problematize SCUM than waste life reading/talking about bourgie excrement like The Feminine Mystique.
before I go, I just wanna say that one of the things I secretly love about the writings of Valerie Solanas is how they very brashly and unapologetically pit women against each other. we need to talk about this. we need to talk about girl-hate. we need to talk about the fictions of solidarity. all of these things are so important — we must learn to look these monsters in the eye and embrace the fuck out of them.

I like to think of it as her shooting.
“SCUM will keep on destroying, looting, fucking-up and killing until the money-work system no longer exists and automation is completely instituted or until enough women co-operate with SCUM to make violence unnecessary to achieve these goals.”
When i walked into the Feminist Press office today, the first thing I heard was someone saying “I just got my period!” which is so apropos. Also on the way there I passed a busker singing “Adia.” Magicked times.
“Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to any woman, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking girls only to undermine the government; to reassess and reorganize the senseless, archaic legal system (and initiate a more effective method of enforcement), to stop the blind acceptance of implausible media role models, to re-educate apathetic female puppets who distort the image and impair the evolution of women…and to repair men.”
Castration Squad Manifesto, 1980. With acknowledgment to Valerie Solanas.
Since I don’t have any Castration Squad, throwing on The Bags comp in celebration of this.
IT’S ALL SO GOOD. Alice, Mary, Valerie, all of my heros.
I was rereading this today and thought how nice that he compares SCUM Manifesto to the Temple of Dendur in terms of cultural artifacts.
And also that if someone had published Lolita as L.O.L.I.T.A, Lessons Of a Lecherous Incestuous Trust-betraying child Abuser AND RAPIST or something and Nabokov shot the person responsible, people would be sticking up for him pretty hardcore.
